Studio Week

Studio Week… an opportunity for creativity and innovation

At Excelia Communication School, we firmly believe that hands-on experience is essential in preparing students for successful careers in digital communication and design. Our annual event, Studio Week, is a unique immersive educational initiative that takes classroom learning to the next level through practical projects, with collaboration from industry professionals. This week-long event offers our Year 2 students invaluable opportunities to apply their skills in a dynamic, real-world environment.

A professional and inspiring learning environment

Studio Week sees our campus transformed into a bustling communication studio, where students work on real or fictitious projects provided by our industry partners. This intensive week is designed to develop the students’ curiosity, research skills, autonomy, technical skills, and ability to work as part of a team.

Throughout the week, students take on the role of creative professionals, receiving project briefings from local experts and working under the supervision of experienced tutors to deliver professional-standard solutions. This set-up mirrors the workings of a real communication studio, offering students an engaging, hands-on learning experience.

A wide range of projects with real impact

During Studio Week, students tackle a variety of projects that reflect the diverse nature of the fields of communication and digital design. Projects include brand creation, communication strategy development, visual design… and much more! These projects are not only academically challenging, but also create a meaningful connection with the local community and businesses.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with industry professionals from a variety of sectors, including profit-driven businesses and not-for-profit organisations, who will provide you with real-world challenges. Each project brief is designed to stimulate your creativity and strategic thinking, helping you to put into practice everything you’ve learned in the classroom. Our partners include companies such as ADEI internal communication, AÉSIO Mutuelle, the La Rochelle Sailing Centre, La Coursive (national theatre), La Rochelle Tourisme & Evènements, Les Rencontres des Arts Fous, Nautisme Royan Atlantique, Rotary Club, Barthic, Bob’s Chope, Éditions Circonflexe, LicenceOne, Lima - Peruvian cuisine… to name but a few!

Evaluation and feedback from professionals

At the end of Studio Week, the students present their projects to the industry partners who provide the assignments. These presentations are an essential part of the learning process, as students receive direct feedback from industry experts, allowing them to fine-tune their work and understand expectations of the industry.

Projects are assessed according to certain criteria:

  • understanding and argumentation
  • compliance with specifications
  • teamwork
  • quality of the final presentation

This stringent assessment process ensures that students not only meet academic standards, but also develop professional skills that are highly sought after in the workplace.

Preparing learners to be future professionals

Excelia Communication School’s Studio Week is more than just a learning activity… it’s a bridge between academic theory and hands-on industry experience. By working on real projects and receiving feedback from industry professionals, students gain an in-depth understanding of the requirements and expectations for their future careers.

This immersive experience helps them…

  • to build a solid portfolio of work
  • to boost their employability
  • to prepare to become the next generation of leaders in communication
